Healthy Homemade Marinara Sauce + Herbs

Pasta dishes are much loved no matter where in the world you go! This is because you can make pasta in so many ways– but the most important part of any pasta meal is the sauce! I’ve been doing some experimenting in the kitchen, trying to save more money by making things I would usually buy at the store. This led me to discover a delicious, healthy marinara sauce recipe. Featuring Basil, Rosemary, and Parsley– perfect flavor enhancers with great medicinal benefits!

+ Basil

Basil is honestly my favorite herb to consume fresh–the flavor is out of this world! I don’t only add it to savory dishes, but also sweet ones like icecream or smoothies! Basil is a Carminative and will help ease stomach cramps or any feelings of nausea. Basil is also very high in antioxidants, vitamin A & K!

+ Rosemary

I cannot wait to expand on this herb when I start doing my Herb 101 Sereis posts! This was the first herb I ever truly dived into during school; I gained a valuable relationship with this plant. Did you know, Rosemary is a truly extraordinary herb in regards to brain health!? Maybe some of those actions will peak out in the sauce, but for this dish, Rosemary is mostly going to show off her aiding digestive actions much like Basil! It’s good to have carminatives in your meal because a lot can go wrong when we combine certain foods. This helps us feel a lot less bloated and gassy at the end of a filling meal!

+ Parsley

I prefer cilantro any day over Parsley, but in this dish, it’s a true flavor player. You can purchase fresh, curly or flat for this recipe. Did you know, Parsley is one of the best plants for removing heavy metal toxins out of our body!? We don’t think about it much, but heavy metals can build up in the body and turn up as inflammation, chronic disease, or cancer. This little baby is also packed with vitamin K and Iron! Let’s keep this delicious, fresh plant on deck, yeah?
